A little cable modem can give you a shell!
The tiny Thomson TCM420 can do much more than you think.
With just a little solding on the board, you can activate a shell on the machine!

XinaPower added these pithy words on Aug 14 07 at 8:12 pmCan you tell me how to activate the console?
Best regards.
XinaPower added these pithy words on Aug 14 07 at 8:15 pmjust soldering a wire to the board in that position does not activate teh shell, on older model’s we had to solder a wire to pin 5 of the eprom to the graoung to activate the shell. Here on these model is the same but with a pin on the flash?

http://www.talkbroadband.com/articles/19/3/How-do-Cable-Modems-Work%3Fsomething commercial while browsing
http://www.linuxmall.com.br/index.php?product_id=4504here it is
http://tcniso.net/Nav/Tutorials/290DevMenu/there is an issue,
the cable“A RS232 to TTL converter ” is a link to the book; in reality is a cable that converts electricity from 12v od the computer serial to 5 for the modem board, there are also howtos for using a palm (that has a MAXIM converter inside) to become the terminal of the modem :> (btw if you know anyone with palms to trash you know my gpg…:P) Do not trust those site who where giving windows .exe to do what should be done manually and discourage anyone who’s about to try with :”D
Ville added these pithy words on Mar 27 08 at 11:17 pmHell, I’m using Linux and can’t find how to launch the “Advanced Diagnostics” internal webpage on the modem. Does it have a HTTP-server and such? What’s the modem’s ip???
Ville added these pithy words on Mar 27 08 at 11:35 pmHah, I found it - with nmap ARP brute force on mask 192.168.*.1-10,100,126,127,128,200,250-255
It’s 192.168.100.1.
Just in case someone tries to find this information with Google: Your Thomson TCM420 Internal Web server (HTTP server) is located at address http://192.168.100.1/
Cheers,
Ville
